Thomas Rice Davis III
September 24, 1940 – July 23, 2022
Tom was a SNET retiree who lived in Guilford. He and his late wife Marcia were life members of the Guilford Fair and could often be spotted volunteering with security and weeding endless flower beds. His gardening was quite something! They were also theater buffs and enjoyed volunteering their time at Goodspeed and Long Wharf Theaters. We will miss Tom’s cheerful laugh.
Cynthia Hipwell Tichy

Cynthia Hipwell Tichy, of Madison, died April 14, 2022 at 74. Cindy and her husband Ed, co-owned Clinton Grain. Cindy and Ed were huge volunteers, supporters and donors to the Guilford Fair and Agricultural Society both personally and as business owners. She loved to grow vegetables and flowers. She canned when the vegetable crops came in for the family to enjoy until the next season. Cindy was born in Titusville, PA., daughter of Ruth and Maynard Hipwell, who predeceased her.
Cynthia Whiteman Comment

Cynthia Whiteman Comment, 87, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6. 2022. She was the wife of the late Noel W. Comment Sr. and the daughter of the late Ronald C. Whiteman Sr. and Maude Honce Whiteman. Cynthia served many years with the Guilford Fair Agricultural Society, as a director of the flower tent. She grew up in Guilford, attended the University of CT, and then worked for the Shoreline Times and the Clinton Recorder as a reporter, copy editor, and theater reviewer. She later became the first Coordinator for the Medical Outpatient Transportation Service (MOTS), established in Clinton.

Life Member Amanda Stickley Billings died Jan. 17, 2022 at age 50 of complications from many years of illness. She grew up in Guilford but had recently moved with her husband John to Maine. She loved the Guilford Fair and spent many years working in the front office with her late mom Georgianna Stickley. She also volunteered in the Photo Department for decades helping her parents – Georgianna and Marvin — collect and manage entries.
Rose Russo DeVeau

Rose Russo DeVeau died Jan. 4, 2022. Arriving from to Guilford from New Haven at the age of four, she was active in the Guilford Fair, the Elks and in St. George Church. She was the wife of the late Emil J. DeVeau, and daughter of the late Pasquale and Antoinette (Basilicato) Russo.

Life member and Fair neighbor Tom Lombard was in declining health when he died on April 19, 2021, in Mulberry Florida, where he had retired to be near his daughter Mags and her husband.
Lois Burkle Terribile

Lois Burkle Terribile died peacefully on Dec. 22, 2020 at The Guilford House. She was predeceased by her husband William John Terribile, Sr. and left a large Guilford family. Lois was past secretary of Guilford Agricultural Society, member of Shoreline Square Dance Club and Guilford Senior Citizens. While raising her six children she became an avid seamstress making countless wedding gowns, suits for her husband and square dance outfits for both of them. She was also well known for her baking abilities – especially (tarts, pies and pecan sticky buns).

Sheila Givens died May 20, 2020 at the Arden House in Hamden, CT after a long struggle with COPD and a recent Covid diagnosis. She created Lost Willow Farm where she raised many animals (goats, pigs, sheep, turkeys, chickens and dogs) and helped others do the same, including the 4H. She was fondly known as the “Goat Lady of Connecticut” for being a great resource to other goat farmers, but also because she captured most of the competitive titles at the local and regional fairs. She and her husband Bob ran the Guilford Fair Goat Department for many years.
Hope Lazarevich Whitehead

Hope Lazarevich Whitehead was a lifelong Guilford resident and Fair volunteer. She died Oct. 6, 2018 at age 97. She was predeceased by her husband Dick Whitehead. They were both lovers of music, opera, art, cooking and gardening.
